That's not a very good idea. 4K at 55 inches is only 80.11 Pixels per Inch. That's less than half the number of PPI of the original Apple iPhone from 2007!

Is this the one that was in the sale at £499?

If only it was a touchscreen.

I have a 40" 4k Monitor, I wouldn't recommend going any bigger than that tbh

But I doubt he will be sitting 12 inches from it either...

You'd be better off with this, this is a highly rated monitor and nothing else like it for the money >

40" from a user point of view, unless you work from a sofa 15ft away, is about the limit on where you want
to be with 4K and if you are using spreadsheets.. this deal [55"] is way too big to have on a desk and you
will get fed up squinting!!

So if you can grab a Seiki for sub £500 would suit you fine, the stand on it is amazing and the best thing
is the 4 x 1080p HD displays of anything you like, all at the same time!!!

I wonder if Philips' implementation of Android TV is any better than Sony's. I know they have Spotify which the Sonys don't at the moment, for some reason.

Might be a silly question but I'll ask it anyway :-)) seeing as this is an Android TV, does that mean you could install and run Kodi on it??

I've had this TV the android apps keep closing themselfs and the picture is horrible plus it seems like it keeps skipping frames

What a stupid comment on so many levels.

Why?

It's well known that 1080p at 27 inches looks awful for PC use, look through any deal of those sorts of monitors posted here and elsewhere on the internet.

A 27 inch 1080p monitor would be 81.59 PPI, which is similar to this display. Making it awful for 'doing spreadsheets' on.

andrewdb would be better of buying a 40 inch 4K display for this purpose.

1. have you tried using spreadsheets on a 2015 iphone let alone a 2007 one?
2. the distances of use are not comparable
3. the original iphone was nowhere near 4k

You're comparing apples and oranges and are confusing the issue. FWIW I would never work with spreadsheets on a 4k TV at any distance. You are assuming that he will be putting the TV on his desk at a few inches from his face. If that is the case then some of your arguments stand, but who in their right mind is going to do that?

I run my TV as a monitor for 3rd person action games. I sit 3m from it.

I do the same - I stream it from my upstairs gaming PC to my HTPC plugged into my 4K TV. But I wouldn't use it for actual work.

if you are interested, I sit about 80-100cm from my monitors.
A 55in monitor mostly fills my field of view at that distance
I currently have 2x 24 in monitors with thick bezels which are ~= to a 50in monitor
The biggest issue with a 55 in screen is that I need to make the monitor sit flush with the desk, otherwise it will be too tall and I will have to look up and down a lot..

Bad colours. Even after calibration

I got this yesterday and seems really got except I can't get itv player.
I only watch catch up and Netflix and films etc so I don't have to get tv licence.
anyone know how I can get itv player on this please without subscriptions etc
