Going live on 24th February. On there now for £359.99, but will be £249.99. It's not 3D, it's probably made by Goodmans, it's not 1000hz, it's not a plasma, it's lag is probably bad for gaming, there's not a lot of 4k content... Etc etc...
But £250 for a 43"UHD 4k smart TV seems pretty good to me!
Just spotted this online without coming here first. Have ordered online for delivery this afternoon so will review later if anyone still wants to know what it is actually like rather than presuming what it is like.

It's the same price as the 1080p version. It displays moving pictures, and has sound. I'd imagine it works pretty well as a basic, cheap TV. At a cheap price. Pointless is a little harsh and a lot ignorant. The reviews are really good at a higher price.

I bought one of the first plasma TVs that came out and it was a hatichi and that was about 15 years ago and it's still as good as the day I bought it and it's never need repaired for anything, I have seen gave it to my nephew as I have upgraded now but they are very understated and very reliable and that's coming from a IT Consultant and Engineer with some 30 years in the industry

True, but how is that relevant? Hitachi stopped making TVs a few years ago, and the brand is now owned by Argos, who put it on TVs made by Vestel.

Reserved this on Thursday and picked up yesterday, unpacked and tried it today. Quick review - fantastic tv for the money. Build quality feels and looks much more expensive than it cost, very attractive with slim bezel.
Picture is far better than expected, after tweaking the settings that is. Freeview hd channels are sharp. Audio again surprisingly good for a thin TV (after tweaks) and it even has 5 band eq. Menus are intuitive and absolutely instant to react - much better than the so called premium Android tv menus in terms of response time. We have not tried the 'smart tv' features yet ie YouTube Netflix etc, but even if these are useless (which is not what I've heard from the other posts on here) then this will not dent the fact that for the money this TV is absolutely excellent.

If you want to get into the service menu on the TV, then press Menu (wait for menu to appear on the side when on a channel). Then press 4725. It will then display the service menu. Not sure what you do beyond that.

28 Feb 16#218
@neroneuk
Thanks for that. I have no ability / experience with testing lag so was relying on the fact that Game mode appeared to be doing what a Game mode should do. Given what you said, I guess I have nothing to lose by using the colour correction features of the display?
I am still unsure by what you say about scaling. What is the best setting for me to use on the TV? Auto?
OTHERS: Someone above said that the TV would not output DTS Sound. In order to set it up to do so, you need to go to Menu > Sound > Digital Out = Compressed.
neroneuk to uselessboy
28 Feb 16#219
I am sorry, I would really be the worse to give suggestions regarding the tv itself apart from the fact that this tv is not my type at all for the use it is mainly intended. About scaling always use the full whenever possible, I think the option would always be available with HD material only.
uselessboy
28 Feb 16#216
@neroneuk Did you turn on Menu > Picture > Advanced > HDMI Full Range = On?
When you say 'don't use scaling', how do I do that? I am using Menu > Picture > Advanced > Picture Zoom = Full to show the full picture, as the Auto mode loses some pixels from the top and bottom of the screen. If it's better, I could do the scaling on the graphics card.
Game mode is accessed using Menu > Picture > Mode = Game. This turns off the post-processing settings.
neroneuk to uselessboy
28 Feb 16#217
HDMI full range= it is a bit misleading as I prefer the game picture with it off unless the scene in the game is too dark. I must make further tests to decide what does in reality benefit and when to keep it on or off
Not talking about the setting in the tv but obviously use the tv scaling to full with the pc and all. I was talking about the settings on the nvidia panel, google it as it is not too difficult to scale/unscale and make custom made resolutions. I can help in case
Game mode= I am sorry it does not, it is a mode same as any another one and no effect in post processing or speed at all (already lag tested with camera) . If it was the proper one, the screen would switch off and then on after few seconds.
IMPORTANT TO ALL: to get full 4-4-4 60hz at 3840x2160 the hdmi settings needs to be switched to enhanced: menu>settings>hdmi> disabled/standard/enhanced then you will get a proper setting on the nvidia panel with RGB/YCBCR444/422/420 choices instead of only 4-2-0 and provided you are using a compatible GPU.

ok, definitely this TV does 4-4-4 chroma [email protected] hz with gtx970nvidia. Better than expected, great with games too. About lag, I tested it vs my expensive samsung 1440p monitor (office/gaming monitor, so possibly slower than a proper gaming monitor).
The test was performed (with camera input lag test, http://tft.vanity.dk/ ) at 1440p to match the resolution of the monitor, the difference is only on average plus 14/17ms at most on the hitachi. This difference goes lower if the film mode and noise reduction are switched off. I suspect the lag increases with the screen at 3840x2160
As a monitor this is better than an expensive Panasonic I had until recently apart for the slightly lower lag input.
For the rest I cannot comment much as I am not interested in smart TV etc.. Can see that everything works well and can play well these 4k videos from you tube. Upscaling from the pc playing a bluray movie with a proper 4k cyberlink dvd ultra15 does not make anything better and not even the very expensive sets will, not sure about these very high end one from Samsung (I want one, lol). Our existing old 1080p tv's do still make a better job for that.
For the rest, example picture quality sd/hd etc.. it is less than my 6 years old Samsung lcd. I was surprised that there is some kind of an upscaling where as an example the menus from my satellite receiver does really look nicer as if they are real 4k graphics (only the graphical menus of course, picture quality is less that my existing 1080p TV), the 4k Panasonic I had(top of the range 2014) was worse that this one for sd/hd picture quality but a great monitor for games only, not the text.
So do not expect deep blacks etc... but as a monitor it is a real bargain,
Got it on my desk and find it easy to control at a distance of 80cm, when playing games online you might want to use a custom made non scaled resolution which will help a lot with your GPU, ex: 3840x1600, 3840x1440,3840x1200, 3440x1440,3440x1080, 3000x1200, 2560x1080 just anything you like, a res. of 2560x1440 would be an equivalent of a 29" screen, on the top of that you got the advantage to get a wider cinematic experience on most of the games in the market which would all do that automatically once the resolution is been set up on the nvidia panel. Sorry for the AMD owner (I am too an unhappy owner), these cards are crap for that and does not matter how many times I got in touch with them in order to get a proper software that does it like nvidia does, they did something recently on the crimson software but it is still crap as the picture will stretch on the screen.
Games will look more colourful and sharper than any proper monitor
To finish, these many people complaining about bad lag, I got the suspicion that the play the games at low frame rate per second, use frap on your game and make sure you do not go below 60fps for the best enjoyment, as I said earlier you can customise any (non scaled) resolution which will help to increase the FPS and with lower settings the games will still look superb on this screen.
Strangely cannot find a GAMEMODE on this tv, wondering if it could have made difference for lag.
any resolution, custom made or not, should be used unscaled.
edit:
I do not know the technicality involved but I was wondering why many do complain about bad lag and blurring, I noticed that playing a game or some that perfectly plays well at 4k, at 1080p stretched in to the screen will badly lag and blur (fraps would still show very high FPS) the hz could revert as low as 24hz, hence the bad lag. So, always do not scale use any resolutions with all the black bars around and will work well. I assume this must the problem with the console and wondering if a proper 4k scaler would help to avoid the problem. Some TV's, ex: Samsung I believe does scale a ps3 etc... to 3840x2160, if not they must use some trickery instead and therefore no one complains about lag if youi can understand the principle.

must say picked up on Friday, tested last night with some 4k media and it looks superb, crisp detail and even regular HD looks better than my old lg. as for YouTube app on the TV it's a bit odd in terms of if you pick a 4k source it sometimes switches it down to HD, I assume this is down to bandwidth. will try with YouTube app on my phone later as you can select definition instead of auto. otherwise brilliant TV for the money, would buy again if needed!

Q1. Does this tv play YouTube and Netflix as 4k?
A. Yes, on the TV, and yes through a computer.
If you want no lag using through a computer running 4k, it needs to run at 60hz. For that you either need a graphics card that outputs HDMI 2.0 or a display port 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter. I also saw no lag when using the TV on its own at 60hz.

Is 4K content played via this to noticeably better than HD? Also interested in whether Blu Rays look better via this to? Thanks
bobo53 to RJ1
26 Feb 16#184
proper 4k contents are definitely better, but as an example I do not consider Netflix to offer proper 4k contents, bitrate too slow unfortunately, hence the 4k netflix degraded picture. HD an sd will look degraded too as this tv will not upscale the way it is meant or we might think. To watch video disks nearly as good as you get in your 1080p tv you need a 4k upscaler player, still not as good as using an 1080p tv.
Getting this tv for the only use at which I think might be best, to be used with a PC and they all do it very well in terms of picture quality. Samsung does do for sure a good job on upscaling, Panasonic as an example was crap upscaling, at least with my ex RRP £3000 top of the model 2014, but incredible for PC use I must say.
Got one to pick up in a couple of days as soon I get my discounted vouchers and will eventually report what I think

25 Feb 16#179
So you've actually confirmed my point, that of there being more to it than the resolution. Once you're over a certain threshold the number of pixels in an image has less impact than the colour accuracy, backlight consistency, contrast, black levels....
XT660Z
25 Feb 16#178
I suspect Netflix will require end-to-end security for 4k content - but you'd expect the built-in Netflix app on a 4k TV to be able to provide that. If you have a PC with a video card that supports HDCP 2.2 then you could try that via HDMI. HDCP is notoriously flaky as it forces downscaling if everything doesn't quite line up. Theres an article on HDCP here: http://4k.com/news/hdcp-causes-problems-for-4k-content-delivery-to-consumers-6044/

For all those 'too cheap' nay-sayers... it's not realistic to consider a TV an investment these days, expect it to last you a few years. The TV will probably functionally outlast your interest it, then you'll be chasing the next 'big thing' - HDR, 8k? Also, expect any 'smart' features to cease working as protocols change and manufacturers stop providing software updates for 'old' products or services just disappear. Buy a cheap plug-in box and replace it when it stops working.

Your point is not clear - why do you say 'not worth buying at this point in time'? Will there be, or has there been, a point in time when '4k on a cheap TV' is/was worth buying in your opinion? As for 'better of with 1080p' it purely depends on what you what a 4k TV for.

Just bought this. I'm very impressed with it. Been watching 4k youtube videos via my phone using the TV's built in Miracast. Works brilliantly. Definition is crisp and colours are vivid. No motion blur that I can detect as yet.
Does anyone who has this tv have an Amazon 4k TV box that they've plugged in to see if this is hdcp 2.2 compliant? I've got nothing to test. I know "Matt from Argos" says it does on the argos Q&A, but I'm not taking that as Gospel! The TV manual doesn't say anything either way about hdcp 2.2. It can however play 4k hvec and h. 264/5 encoded videos from USB, which is a nice extra.

Great picture, responsive remote (if a bit big and chunky!) easy to setup, looks good, amazing price, just about to upgrade our Netflix to 4K so we can test the 4K mode out but have to say for the price this is a right bargain! No idea about monitor, but just watched 4k on it through Netflix. Very impressed. Probably not as good as a high end one, but certainly better than my 1080p Samsung F8000. Haven't noticed any blur yet. But I get that on my Samsung. I'll let you know if I notice anything negative. Thus far I'm chuffed.

Anyone know what Argos' returns policy is?
Willing to go and pick one of these up now to use as a pc monitor but if its a load of toot i would like to take it back. As far as i can see online its only 30 days if its unopened?

24 Feb 16#56
The official returns policy is:
If unused
If faulty
YMMV otherwise depending on who's handling the return.
I would suggest not buying a TV to use as a monitor, the quality is usually worse unless you plan on using this only for video/games.

bought this today got it set up and got to say it looks a quality set deffos looks and feels like a more expensive set, the picture quality is superb (only watching hd sky channels at the mo) negative points are the remote feels a bit cheap but Netflix button is a brilliant feature and the sound quality isn't great if using as a living room TV I'd probs hook up a sound bar but as a bedroom TV its decent enough

It is the same, SD and HD quality picture would be crap against a proper 1080p tv, therefore they should get it back, if not then it is good (I doubt). Tempted to see what are the results with a PC, good I must assume even so I must expect a 4-2-0 chroma @4k 60hz at best.

Distance selling regs were replaced in July 2014 by Consumer Contracts Regs, latter possibly best summarised as providing consumer same rights to product inspection that would have been enjoyed as if purchased in a shop i.e. handle product and gain appreciation of functions and quality, and have 14 days to do so. Conditions for a full refund require the goods to be returned in a resaleable condition. Obviously seals may need to be broken to be able to inspect the goods, but if you significantly damage the box / internal packaging and / or scratch / otherwise blemish the product during inspection then your expectation for a full refund will be unrealistic. http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-contracts-regulations

Can probably be summarised as "30 days...Just remember it’s got to be unused, in a re-saleable condition and in original packaging"http://www.argos.co.uk/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/ContactUs.htm?answer=332
Possibly greatest flexibility via online purchase & delivery to benefit from Consumer Contracts Regulations.

24 Feb 162#42
There's a bigger issue - the bigger the screen gets, the more obvious any minor flaws are. Vestel/UMC sets are fine for, say, 40" or smaller but the more you blow up the image the worse it looks.
As for resolution, ignore it. Go for 4K if you like but if you think the picture quality will be "better" because of resolution then you're sorely mistaken. To disagree would be to suggest that a 20 megapixel phone camera produces images the same quality as a 20 megapixel DSLR. The processing behind the image counts for far more than the number of actual pixels on screen

I think the balanced comment here is that this is a low price for a budget TV having the upper-end of the Vestel featureset where the picture quaity, smart features and expected longevity reflect the price. The main issue with a 43" 4k TV is that to benefit from the resolution difference between 4k and 1080p the viewer would typically need to be sitting so close to the TV that they would be kneecapping themselves on the TVs stand. That could be applied to any 43" 4k TV.
Hot in the context of it's an undeniably low price for an entry-level 43" TV.
the1stcoke

3" on the diagonal, adds a fair bit of screen real estate. As I said, it's a cheap and cheerful tv for my room. I spent the premium on Samsung before and I regret it. And the reviews of my Samsung were amazing at £2k.
haritori
23 Feb 16#19
its 3" smaller with a vastly superior panel and a cheap fire stick will sort your smart TV features out, infact it will surpass whatever this offers.
the reviews are prob from the type people who buy zinc batteries over alkaline or think that the burger van on te industrial estate is better and cheaper than McDonalds theres a word for them... tight asses?
you get what you pay for, if your happy with crap the fair play, my comments are to advise the other 99% of society who like quality over quantity.

Anyone else?
I'm loving this TV. 4k Netflix is great. I now prefer watching things in bed. I'm sorry to hear others are having problems.
Is dynamic contrast worth having on and the other things in that menu?
Thanks
Thanks for that. I have no ability / experience with testing lag so was relying on the fact that Game mode appeared to be doing what a Game mode should do. Given what you said, I guess I have nothing to lose by using the colour correction features of the display?
I am still unsure by what you say about scaling. What is the best setting for me to use on the TV? Auto?
OTHERS: Someone above said that the TV would not output DTS Sound. In order to set it up to do so, you need to go to Menu > Sound > Digital Out = Compressed.
This was all based on Cinema mode for the TV.
Maybe it is my internet connection.
p.s. pressing "i" - 2nd last row 3rd button from left. Tells you if you are on 720p / 1080p / 4k ( never got it)
I am no expert - I have an xbox one and play a mix of Fifa, COD and Forza maybe 2-3 times a week. So not a hardcore gamer haha.
Would this be okay? Thoughts?
Cheers
I know it's subjective but can anyone who has the tv suggest any good settings for picture?
I don't if things like dynamic contrast are good to have on or not etc?
Thanks
Do you know what the input lag is on the HDMI input? My Seiki is around 150ms which is annoying for use as a PC monitor.
Any juddering or motion blur when watching movies etc?
I have managed to reserve one but not sure if HD picture quality will be as good as my 5 years old Sony
Theres an article on HDCP here: http://4k.com/news/hdcp-causes-problems-for-4k-content-delivery-to-consumers-6044/
this is a pic of my desktop
Do you read the very 2 last lines the blu and red clearly at [email protected]? then that is chroma 4-4-4
the adapter is the CLUB3D Displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 Active Adapter. This is the only adapter that I know of that actually works and can confirm Im running at 60Hz through HDMI. hope this helps
signed up to Netflix , streaming 4k through tv , incredible !!!!!8):sunglasses:
As of now....Its fantastic, there is a little juddering on fast action as its running at 30z but you don't notice it after 30 secs or so. Picture quality is amazing. No juddering occurs if using the built in netflix and youtube, both run perfectly running 4k media. Ignore the negatives people are saying. This is an amazing piece of kit for £249.
Thank you once again.
It also allows WiFi mirroring and it picked up my 5ghz band. Amazing value for money.
Heat added.
I take it you like to state the obvious huh?
Does anyone who has this tv have an Amazon 4k TV box that they've plugged in to see if this is hdcp 2.2 compliant? I've got nothing to test. I know "Matt from Argos" says it does on the argos Q&A, but I'm not taking that as Gospel! The TV manual doesn't say anything either way about hdcp 2.2. It can however play 4k hvec and h. 264/5 encoded videos from USB, which is a nice extra.
Willing to go and pick one of these up now to use as a pc monitor but if its a load of toot i would like to take it back. As far as i can see online its only 30 days if its unopened?
If unused
If faulty
YMMV otherwise depending on who's handling the return.
I would suggest not buying a TV to use as a monitor, the quality is usually worse unless you plan on using this only for video/games.

Correct user guide for this TV in this deal:
http://www24.zippyshare.com/v/sEQVs3Eh/file.html
in 2014...
Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi have signed agreements to set up a new company, Japan Display.
same display in multiple products / manufactors
this is very similar to the Hisense 43 uhd.
still hot @ £250 don't forget your fav cahback (every little helps)
But £250 for a 43"UHD 4k smart TV seems pretty good to me!"
Really? why would anyone pay anything for a sub par TV? i think i'd rather invest that £250.00 in a nice Samsung 1080p set.

I wanted +40"
And I wanted smart.
It's for my bedroom.
The reviews are great so it can't be that bad.
And I'm disillusioned with Samsung at the moment. Spent £1600 2 and a half years ago on 55f8000 and there's a lot that annoys me about that TV.

Guess where Samsung buy their mainstream displays
Good test would be to check Sky News HD or BBC News HD especially with that on screen rolling banner.
If HD quality is good enough that deal is no brainer for 4k ready TV consireding some cheap or even expensive ones come with only ridiculous 2 HDMI connection.
My 5 years old Sony has 4 HDMI so is this one + some extra connections as well.
Very tempted but not sure about HD picture quality. I guess worse come to worst TV can be sent back in 14 days under distance selling regulations if ordered online?
is it good enough as a PC MONITOR for OFFICE use? (not gaming)
I cannot find any review online because it has no model number.
Every time I click my fingers a new TV deal on HotDealUK dies.......
Please stop this cold blooded murder and give the guy some heat...
We all know Hitachi is not as good as Samsung, but they still deserve a chance!
Your heat, along with others will help other less fortunate TV deals reach HotDealUK and stop this branded madness once and for all.
Give what heat you can and save a TV deal today.
It may or may not last a day.
It may or may not last a month.
It may or may not last 5 years.
Is there anything you're (other than price) factually aware off that makes you doubt it's reliability?
On here people seem to doubt the reliability of these entry level TVs, but I can't remember there ever being a major problem with these types of brands in the long run.
instore it depends who serves you tbh.
What happens if we test it, set it up and watch a movie then decide it is not good picture quality etc.
Would they take it back under distance selling regulations?
Possibly greatest flexibility via online purchase & delivery to benefit from Consumer Contracts Regulations.
1 month, 2 weeks agoHi Chris,
I have looked into this for you and I can confirm that this does have a HDCP 2.2
Thank you for using Argos Q&A
Then why don't you move along to the next deal. For everyone else this is a great deal for a telly.Hot
Will this be any good for bedroom console gaming?
I've voted HOT.
HUKD
But the brand might be better, as I am using philips 4k pc monitor now.
As for resolution, ignore it. Go for 4K if you like but if you think the picture quality will be "better" because of resolution then you're sorely mistaken. To disagree would be to suggest that a 20 megapixel phone camera produces images the same quality as a 20 megapixel DSLR. The processing behind the image counts for far more than the number of actual pixels on screen
is it good enough as a PC MONITOR for OFFICE use? (not gaming)
I cannot find any review online because it has no model number.

lol
Hot in the context of it's an undeniably low price for an entry-level 43" TV.
the reviews are prob from the type people who buy zinc batteries over alkaline or think that the burger van on te industrial estate is better and cheaper than McDonalds theres a word for them... tight asses?
you get what you pay for, if your happy with crap the fair play, my comments are to advise the other 99% of society who like quality over quantity.
It does make me laugh that the tv "experts" hunt out these posts purely to say how bad they are.
